Spring Break!

Well, unlike most college kids who go to the beach for spring break and party the week away. I stayed at home, of course I would like to go to the beach but, there's no better place then being home.

I worked two days of my break, spent the other days relaxing and getting things done around the farm. Living on a farm there is always something that needs to be done. This week we cut hay, you have to first cut the hay, let it dry, thether it (which is pretty much just tossing it around to let it dry more), then we have to rake it which gathers the hay into rows, then the baler goes over the rows and makes the hay bales. We sale the hay to buyers, for cattle or horses.

Thursday evening, me and my girlfriend went to Texas with my mom and dad for a little get away trip. It was a nice trip and I really enjoyed getting to spend some down time with my family and my girl.

Enjoying the little things

Today I had a family reunion, I was able to see many family members that I haven't seen in a while. It was good just being able to catch up and enjoy the company of family. Everybody is just so busy now days that we never really get to see all the family members that we would like.

So at events like family reunions, you have to take advantage of the little time you are given with them and enjoy the little things, like hearing childhood stories from my grandpaw or looking at old pictures and see how times really have changed.

Today I also was able to go watch my five year old niece play her first tee-ball game. It was great seeing her have so much fun playing something I loved to play. Seeing her, hit, run, catch, throw, and not pay attention to the game most of the time, but I guess that's what you get when a five year old is forced to stand in one spot for a long time.

We all need to just take time out and really enjoy the little things that make us happy, even if we don't realize it.

What life's all about

It has been a pretty good weekend for me. I had to work Friday, but it wasn't that bad because I got paid, that makes all your hard work worth it. Today I finally got to sleep past seven, woke up feeling great. Have you ever had those days when you just wake up and say to yourself, "this is going to be a good day" well that's how it was for me.

I woke up feeling good, after lunch, my brother-in-law and I went fishing on a local lake. In my last blog I said I wanted to buy a new rod and reel, well I bought one. I was very excited to try it out. I got my line on it, hook, and my bait, all new reels have to be dialed in to the way the user likes it. We get to the spot we wanted to fish, my first cast was what I like to call a "birds nest" because all the line just bundles up together. I start pulling out the line, get the backlash out and start reeling.

When I get all the slack out of my line, I realize I have something, it's either a fish or a bunch of grass. It's usually grass so I start reeling it in likes it is grass, then all of a sudden a fish breaks the water and I finally realize I have an actual fish. So on my first cast of the day, with the first cast of my new rod I catch a pretty good fish.

Today has just been one of those good days that I wish I could have more of. My good weekend should continue tomorrow. I'm going to wake up, go to church, praise God, come home and spend the day with my family and might find a little time to get some homework in. Maybe...

This is what life's all about, enjoying the little things and making sure you never take life to seriously.

Fishing Season

I have always loved to fish. I started fishing when I was old enough to hold the rod in my hand and set the hook on a fish. There is just something about fishing that is relaxing and it puts you at a piece of mind. You have no worries in the world except for catching a fish of course.

This is the time of year I LOVE to fish. It's not to hot and it's not to cold, the snakes have not really got started crawling yet and the mosquitoes USUALLY have not gotten bad yet, but for some reason as soon as you walk outside they attack you. I blame it on the lack of winter we had. I never let a few mosquitoes ruin my fishing trips though, spray on a little OFF and keep on fishin'.

Up until last year, the only place I have ever fished was in ponds and lakes. But this past summer me and two of my good friends took a senior trip to Florida and went on a guided fishing trip out in the Gulf. It was one of the best times and one of the most miserable times. Before we went out I was asked, "do you want some dramamine so you don't get sick?" I was like nah, I've fished in some pretty rough water, I'll be alright. Well, I have never fished in ocean rough water and as soon as we left the harbor I knew I made a bad decision. I got sick, really sick, and the bad part about it is, you can't get away from the sickness because you are constantly moving. I would throw up, catch a fish, throw up, catch a fish. I did catch a bunch of good fish, a 25 pound red snapper, trigger fish, and the catch of a life time, a monster 45 pound amberjack, boy did it put up a fight.

Fishing in my opinion is just so rewarding and relaxing. Anyone can do it. My girlfriend and my self are going fishing tomorrow, I'm going to teach her how to throw an open face reel, I have a feeling I'm going to be pulling out a few backlashes. It'll be OK though, as long as you're fishing. I think this gives me a good excuse to go buy a new rod and reel, I think I will!

Spring break yet???????

I don't know about the rest of you but, I am so ready for spring break! I know it has only been a few weeks since our last break but I am defiantly ready for a little time off of school.

Getting time off of school just makes doing school work and going to school feel better and re-energizes you and gives you the ability to finsih off the semester. I know without a break I would not make it through the semester sane.

Breaks such as spring breaks just give you something to look forward too. It makes the semester go by a lot faster and makes it a little easier to endure.

So bring on spring break, because I'm in a use for a good break!

Summer Yet??

Well, with all this warm weather we have been having, it's getting me really excited for summer. The summer months are by far my favorite, I'm not a big fan of 105 degree temperatures by no means, but I am a fan of being out of school, getting to go on vacations, and just having some free time.

My favorite thing to do during the summer is spend time on the lake. A few summers back I tried wakeboarding for my first time and I was hooked ever since. It's my passion, it's all i think about, well that and making sure I get my school work done of course. It's one of those things that you really don't know if you want to try it, but once you do, you love it!

My older sister is probably the most girlie girl I know. Her husband and my self finally convinced her to try it, her first try she got right and was wakeboarding like she had been doing it for years, now she's almost as a big of fan of wakeboarding as I am.

This summer I have some new people in mind to get hooked on the sport, my nephew and my girlfriend. It should be pretty easy getting my 7 year old nephew up and going, the real challenge is going to be getting my girlfriend up and going, she's kind of like my older sister, a real girlie girl, but I have faith in her and I believe she will be able to do it.

So when the summer months roll around, the first place you should look for me is on the water, because that is where I will be spending most of my time.

Wondering.....

I've found myself wonder these past few days about this Louisiana weather. I want to be like, "What's up with you Louisiana?" make your mind up already.

You can't be like a little kid picking different super hero's each day, you can't be batman oneday and superman the next. You need to pick a temperature range and stay there.
